Tutorial One

Brighten a dark image or screencap using Curves and Color Balance.

Do not follow my tutorials exactly. Every image and screencap is different and you should experiment to get different results. Remember, this is only a guide.

There are tons of ways to brighten an image. Here, I teach my way of brightening up screencaps and super dark images that works well with most images and screencaps out there. I'm using Photoshop CS2, but this tutorial is translatable to both PS and PSP.

First, open your desired image or icon base.
01. Make a curves layer. Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Curves
RGB: Input: 81 and Output: 181

02. Now a color balance layer. Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Color Balance
Midtones: -38 , -25 , -45
Shadows: +14 , 0 , -17
Highlights: +21 , -2 , +40
And you're done!

Now besides just improving screencaps, you can also use the Color Balance part to even colorize your images or icons. Just play with it.
