Many of us go through life saying the same silly thing over and over again, “I am a woman!”. Our cultures are constantly evolving the same stereotypical feminine names for many reasons — for example, to keep them in line with male names. However, there are also some remarkable names out there. 1. A lot of these names were first used by the African women themselves.
These names are often unique to African women, or at least to the women who lived past the first two to three generations ago. I had the chance to interview Dr. Cinda Ayodele Olujobi, who is currently the project manager for the African Women’s Names Project at the University of Cape Town. She shared some of these amazing names, along with their origins and meanings. If you think the name is great, it should be spelled and presented like that! 2.
A New Way To Read!This week’s new blog is a guide to help you learn how to read, navigate, and enjoy yourself. It’s a resource for everyone, and it’s perfect to share with both kids and people of all ages, even if they might not be able to understand the details. I learned much from this week’s blog and shared it with several colleagues on the project.
I really enjoyed learning all about the project, especially getting into the process of building the book and how that is different from other guidebooks. A great read - it’s full of interesting information. 3. They say Africa is the richest continent on Earth with amazing things to offer the world. 4.
