Coronavirus may be behind the rise in boys names starting with M, but you don’t need to worry. While the coronavirus outbreak may have impacted the traditional naming trends, it was not the only reason for this name choice. It can also be linked to the traditional Asian influences throughout the modern day.
While the new boy naming trends have moved away from the letter M, the trend can still be traced to the original Japanese names which include characters derived from M- and N-like sounds. In Japan, names beginning with M, T, and S can still be found, and in many cases, they follow the traditional M-N-R-Q-M scheme as well.
In the past, Chinese-inspired names were usually given to young boys, and then given to their sons later. However, with all the new names coming out of all these different Chinese-inspired influences, the “M” boys might be growing up without the traditional Chinese influences.
