Why does this pairing exist? To my guess, it was born through fanfiction. Fanfiction.net was where I first discovered this alternate pairing.
Now, miscellaneous fanfiction sites, like FF.net, MM.org, and many others, were and still are now filled with crossover fanfiction between the two manga/anime, Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha.
Along with the fanfiction, there was a Yahoo! Group. Then, there was a MSN Group. All of that led to this shrine.
I'm not sure who was the first person to start Kurama and Kagome fanfiction, but they sure did something really amazing. I would proably hug the person who first started Kurama and Kagome fanfiction.
Together, Kurama and Kagome seem to match. Even though they both come from different manga/anime series, they have a few things that they share in common.
Kurama, who was originally Minamino Shuuichi, was born with Youko Kurama's spirit in him. He was no longer the regular human being, Minamino Shuuichi. He became Kurama. He is now part youkai and part human. His body holds two different souls.
He was never asked if that was the life he wanted, but he lives it anyway.
He learned how to use and control his and Youko's powers. He wanted to fight so that no one important in his life would get hurt. He would've sacrificed his own life for anyone he cared about.
One thing that might've be a problem was that because Youko's spirit was in Kurama, that meant Kurama had to deal with all the things left behind. Youko never planned to die, and that was why he was living in the body of Shuuichi.
Youko had plans of being free, but that all changed when Shiori, Shuuichi's mother, had stopped his fall on the broken dish pieces. It was then Youko had experienced the feeling of being cared for, and everything changed. He decided to stay in Shuuichi's body and help him when he needed it.
There were others who had 'business' with Youko, but they had to deal it out though Kurama. Kurama was only well known because of the spirit that dwelled within his body. If Youko had never died, then Kurama wouldn't have been Kurama. He would've been just plain Minamino Shuuichi.
His life would've been different if Youko hadn't died back then. He probably wouldn't be the sexy, smart, and charming bishounen that we, the fangirls, love. Sure, you could say it's a two for one deal, but have you ever thought of their feelings?
For Kurama, I would say that he would want someone who would love him for just him. Not because he is Youko, but just for him, the human Kurama. A person should live their life to the fullest, but he is pulled down by the wieght of Youko's past. Of course he could live his with Youko in him, but that really isn't a life everyone wants.
He doesn't get to experience life like a normal person because he has to spend it for two. He hides secrets, and he is unable to truly express his feelings because they might cause harm to someone.
I would say that Kurama is a very giving person. He is very kind and gentle, but when it comes to fighting, he is a very dangerous opponent. If he really had to, he would kill his opponent. It is always best to stay on his good side.
As for the lovely reincarnated priestess, Kagome, she hasn't had a very steady life either.
I wouldn't say getting pulled into a well by a centipede demon on your sixteenth birthday is any fun. Especially when you climb out of it to see you aren't home anymore.
She had found out that she was the reincarnation of a great priestess. Because of that, many people believed that she was someone else before they got to know her.
Kagome doesn't want to be known as anyone else but herself. That goes the same for love. She wants to be loved by being herself, not because she resembles someone else. She would put the happiness of others before her own, even if it hurts her.
Like Kurama, Kagome wasn't asked to have the soul of another person. It just happened. She doesn't enjoy being mistaken for someone else, mainly as Kikyou. To my guess, it is probably one of the things she hates the most.
Kagome is an honest person, but she knows when some things shouldn't be said. Kagome is one of the few people that a person can really trust.
Even though she had to lie to her friends when she was in the feudal era, it was for the better.
How would you explain to your friends that you had been risking your life fighting demons because of a powerful jewel without being called crazy?
Eri, Yuka and Ayumi care for her very much. They are especially concerned about her love life. They want to help her forget about her 'crazy and possesive boyfriend' by setting her up with someone else, mainly Hojo.
If they ever met Kurama, they would probably try to set Kagome up with him. He is the exact opposite of what they think Inuyasha is. You would think 'Why won't they take him for themselves?', well it's Kagome they want to help. They are her firends! What kind of friend's would think about themselve's before each other? Then, after Kurama and Kagome get togerther, they would probably find someone of their own.
Kagome has a very understanding, yet odd family. She loves them very much, and they take great interest in Kagome's time of when she would be in the fuedal era.
The events and people around Kagome aren't normal. They are weird, but that is what makes them so precious to Kagome.
Since Kurama isn't an average human being, it would be difficult to find someone who would look past everything and love only him. I know Kagome would love Kurama for everything he is, and she wouldn't leave him because he has more than one soul or for what he's done in the past.
Kagome keeps on living, even after part of her soul is taken from her. Her soul isn't complete, but I think Kurama would still love her no matter what situation she is in.
Isn't a relationship always better off where two completely different people can relate at some times? Kurama and Kagome have something in common and because of that, they have a string that binds them together.
This is how I see them, as well as their relationship. They have a far from normal life and they deserve eternal happiness with someone of their own to love.
